L4-L5 injury
After such a successful few months of running and racing. I have had to face some real challenges in my training with a serious injury to my back. Among other things, this has meant that I cannot run/ride/swim or even on some days walk. However, I have an MRI and can see the herniated disc and am putting on my bravest face and will fly to BKK to see a Sports Doctor and a spinal specialist before looking at what my options are. I am on a program of zero running/riding and strength work along with some swimming (no kicking yet) and pool running to try and keep up some of my cardio training. My body is not happy about this after almost 6 weeks of nothing – but I am appreciating fully the little things in life (pain free back for a day feels amazing) and that I can have time to have a massage every week as well as spend a bit more time with the kids on the weekends and I have found a personal trainer and yoga guru who are both helping me to find inner peace and strength during this difficult time. I also want to thank Jenn from the USA who has given me who professional advice on the injury and the issues that I have to think about. I had entered another race for July, but that now seems unlikely. I am hopeful that after 6 months of strength work and a new focus that I can return stronger and fitter and aim for Angkor Wat in Dec 2012.
